Who is the DTV for?

The DTV covers two distinct types of applicant. Remote employees, freelancers, business owners and foreign talent whose income and clients are based outside Thailand fall under the Workcation category. Participants in approved Thai cultural, sporting, wellness or medical activities — such as Muay Thai training at a registered gym or a Thai culinary course — fall under the Thai Soft Power category.

Already in Thailand?

The DTV must be applied for from outside Thailand, through the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in a country where you are a national or a legal resident — each mission sets which residence documents it accepts, so applying from a neighbouring country is only possible if you are a national there or hold a residence status that mission accepts. DTV eligibility

Universal requirements that apply to every DTV applicant, regardless of route.

• Aged 20 or older at the time of application
• Free of any history of Thai Immigration blacklisting or serious overstays
• Free of any serious criminal conviction posing a security risk

Final eligibility is assessed case by case by the relevant Thai embassy or consulate.

Financial requirement

• Bank statements for the last 3 months demonstrating a balance of at least THB 500,000 or the equivalent in another currency. The same balance is required again at the 180-day extension stage
• Accepted proof: savings accounts, checking accounts, or fixed deposits, in any currency equivalent to this amount
• Not accepted: cryptocurrency, investment portfolios, or retirement accounts
• A separate THB 1,900 fee applies for the 180-day in-country extension

Visa validity and permission to stay per entry are two different things — here’s how they work together.

DTV document checklist

The documents below follow the official Thai e-Visa requirements for each DTV category. Your embassy or consulate may ask for more, so treat this as a starting point rather than a complete list.

Every applicant

• Passport biodata page
• Photograph taken within the last six months
• Proof that you are a national or legal resident of the country where you apply, in a form accepted by that Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate
• Financial evidence: bank statements for the last 3 months demonstrating a balance of at least THB 500,000 or the equivalent in another currency
• Certificate of Criminal Record Clearance from your country of nationality or the country where you apply

• Eligible refunds are normally initiated within 10 to 15 working days once the rejection evidence and payment details are confirmed

DTV dependants

• A legal spouse and unmarried children under 20 may apply as dependants
• Dependants may only apply once the main applicant already holds an approved DTV
• Each dependant applies separately and provides their own financial evidence — bank statements showing at least THB 500,000 or equivalent, or a sponsorship letter
